Behind the Name
Solei + Chloe = SoChlo

Our company was named after two bright shining souls who were raised in Brooklyn, NY: Solei Spears and Chloe Spears. They were two sisters who loved each other dearly, and were the nieces of our founder. Unfortunately, they met a tragic end and lost their lives way too soon on April 5th, 2021 at the ages of 20 and 16, respectively.
In order to preserve their legacy, SoChlo Productions LLC was founded to share work with the world that shines brightly and spreads positivity, because that is the way Solei and Chloe lived their lives. This company exists to uplift the world through media and to keep the legacies of Solei and Chloe Spears alive forever.

“She fought hard to stay in this world so she could shine her light in it”

Solei Yasmeen Spears was born on May 16, 2000 in Atlanta, GA but moved with her mother to her mother’s hometown of Brooklyn, NY when she was six months old. Since birth, Solei was an exemplary human being. She was born prematurely, but fought hard to stay in this world so she could shine her light in it. She was always polite in her demeanor, never used curse words & genuinely wanted to make the world a better place. She loved hip-hop and was a huge Kendrick Lamar fan.

Solei was very intelligent, and took education very seriously. She was an alumna of I.S. 240 Andries Hudde Junior High School and Millennium Brooklyn High School, and was a junior majoring in Political Science at CUNY Baruch College at the time of her passing. As president of the CUNY Black Student Union, she advocated for change and equality through her artwork and her actions always spoke louder than her words.

In 2019, as part of the New York Stands with Puerto Rico Recovery and Rebuilding Initiative, Solei represented Baruch College and the City University of New York and provided critical reconstruction and revitalization services. These services included interior and exterior roofing, cementing, and agricultural work for the residents and vulnerable communities of Puerto Rico.

Legacy & Recognition
In addition to being one of the namesakes of SoChlo Productions LLC, Solei is also the namesake for Millennium Brooklyn High School’s Solei Spears Scholarship, the Solei Spears Scholarship Fund by Scholarship Plus, the Solei Spears “Excellence in Action” Award for the Advancement of Social and Racial Justice at Baruch College and was posthumously awarded the 2021 “The Marathon Continues” Award by the CUNY Black Student Union and her bachelor’s degree from Baruch College.

“She had hopes and dreams to travel abroad”

Chloe Rene Spears was born on January 13, 2005 in Queens, NY but raised in Brooklyn, NY. She always had an inquisitive nature which sometimes led to her getting into some mischief, but always in good fun. That same inquisitive nature led to her taking on various hobbies from skateboarding to learning Italian. She loved music, loved to dance and was a huge fan of Rihanna.

Like her older sister, Chloe also took her studies very seriously and was an alumna of I.S. 240 Andries Hudde Junior High School. She was a sophomore at High School for Public Service: Heroes of Tomorrow at the time of her passing. Her favorite subjects in school were English and Global Studies, and she was proud of the “pretty good group of friends” she had made in high school.

A hard worker also like her older sister, Chloe had her first job working for a program called New Yorkers Against Gun Violence (NYAGV) where she discussed new topics and tried to figure out what can be done to improve our communities. She was posthumously awarded the Glenn & Edward Iscoe Youth Leadership Award in 2021 by NYAGV.

Dreams That Soar
She had hopes and dreams to travel abroad, particularly to Italy, but unfortunately she never got the chance to even board an airplane. That’s why here at SoChlo Productions, we want all of our work to soar high and to tell stories to & from all around the world so that Chloe’s legacy can travel to the places she never got a chance to.
